Activity Name
Bowls Club
Details
Indoor short mat Bowls.
This is a community outreach activity for local people who might be interested
in playing short mat bowls. We have
a mixture of church members and local people, with the aim to provide a friendly
atmosphere, so that local people will be interested in coming to other
activities of the church.
Short Mat Bowls is played indoors on a 40-45 ft long mat with biased ‘woods’
(same as outdoor bowls), but with a wooden block in the middle to make it more
difficult.
The club meets every Monday evening in a happy, relaxed atmosphere in the back
hall of the church. We currently
have about 16 members, of whom about half are members of the church.
Being a church team, we normally finish with a prayer.
To give us a challenge, about twice a month we play other short mat bowls
clubs in the area, from such places as Pinewood, Bracknell,
Yateley and Ascot. These
are ‘friendly’ matches, half being played at home and half away.
Though the bowls is competitive, the atmosphere is normally very
friendly, with a mid session break for food to help things along.
